
Maximum Loin, a brief introduction:
Legend has it that Maximum Loin was formed in 1998, shortly after a talking pork-butt visited Scott Kennedy in a dream. The pork-butt informed Scott that a competition barbecue team was to be formed, and its leader would be Brian Merker. A short time later, the prophecy was fulfilled, and Maximum Loin was formed.
Armed with only one Brinkman Smoke n’ Pit, some unbridled ambition, and the talent to drink multiple kegs of cheap beer, Maximum Loin set out to change the face of bbq competitions in Kansas City. It wasn’t long before we began to earn recognition for our delicious bbq and rambunctious parties.
Today, our team includes eight full-time members, as well as a variety of part-time helpers. Over the years, our cooking skills have improved, which is evident by the numerous awards we now display at each competition. Our team’s equipment has also improved over the years, and now we even own a $20 spatula. On today’s competition scene, you won’t find a team more committed to the art of meat smoking and beer drinking than Maximum Loin.
